A Missionary's Legacy

Image

“Miracles seem to happen in sequences,” says Hufford. While attending an ELCA Global Mission Event in Lincoln, NE he came across a flyer about missionaries serving in Slovakia. At the same event, another participant encouraged him to apply for the very same thing. There was a need for a missionary and teacher, and David Hufford answered the call. These “miracles of sequence” took him on a mission. He felt as though he was supposed to be there and nothing has ever changed his mind. From missionary work, to going into jails and prisons, David Hufford lives his faith through service.

“As you look over your life, you would like to think you have done something to make a difference,” says Hufford. He became a missionary to fill a need, a need that God seemed to put right in front of him. He feels the same way about a recent estate gift he put into place with the help of Lutheran Planned Giving Services.

“Sometimes we can put our money into things and do a lot of good, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t help places that are struggling either,” explains Hufford.  “I have a feeling for what the mission of the church is in the 21st
century, and what could happen if we committed even more towards this mission”.

Missionary, author, cancer survivor, Willing Witness. After recently surviving a serious car accident and later a blood clot, David Hufford found himself asking, “Okay God, what am I supposed to be doing here?” He is confident that God will answer this question, perhaps through another sequence of miracles. At Lutheran Planned Giving Services, we thank God for David Hufford and all of the saints, past and present, who place the mission of the church on their hearts.
