Why Planning is Important, Espeically During these Times
Change can be difficult because we often have so little control. We can not control the swings in the stock market, we can not control the impact on our assets due to the financial institutions instability, we can not control how new leadership will impact our country. Sometimes we withdraw or become paralyzed when we face unknown change. One area we can not become paralyzed in is our financial planning. We wait to see how we come out once the turmoil settles down. We must carefully plan now for our loved ones and the ministry we want to see continue for centuries to come. If you have been “waiting” to plan until you see what happens to our economy, your family may find it too late to implement the plans you have. We know that this life is fragile. None of us knows when the Lord will call us home. One of the best gifts you can give your family is a carefully constructed estate plan. One of the blessings of estate planning is that you have many revocable options. The plans you record in your will, in your retirement plan or life insurance through beneficiary designation or for your bank accounts or stocks through Payable on Death (POD) or Transfer on Death (TOD) can be changed at any time up until your death. You don’t have to wait to see what the market will do, or what a new Presidency will bring. You can plan for today and if your assets change significantly in the future, simply add a codicil to your will, change your beneficiary percentages or modify your TOD or POD documents to realign your assets with your goals for family and ministry. Don’t leave your planning up to the State of Nebraska! Create a plan today that meets your immediate goals and review it every 3 to 5 years to keep it up to date. If you do not have a plan, contact LPGS to help you accomplish your goals. If your plan is more than 5 years old, contact us to help you review your plan so it reflects your current situation. Don’t wait. They say the only guarantees in life are death and taxes. We can help you plan for both!
